In this demonstration we are returning the top 5 customers ordered by the total ammount of transactions within a given date period. In order to get a graphical representation of the report we also add a bar chart to the end and export the entire completed report to a PDF file.

The module itself has a vast array of funtions to customize your report for your needs, providing our customers with a powerful on the fly report generation tool, connected to their data and our meta data. There is a selection of graphs and other visual representation tools, to add clarity and understanding to your reports along with numerous export file types, to ensure our customers can generate up to the minute reports however they want them.

Hi people,

I have recently created a new startup group on facebook to help people with their ideas and investment. click here to join. Below is the extract from the group blog:

London Start-up 2.0 is a social group promoting the technology industry
in London. You do not need to live in the London area to be a member or
take part in it. The group was created due to demand in the start-up
community. The current formats of meet-ups in the community are very
informal and make it very difficult for start-ups to make the right
impact.

London Start-ups 2.0 is about creating connections
between the right people to take their business or ideas further. This
is a place where aspiring and veteran switch ideas and form
partnerships. We also understand the difficulties that businesses face
in raising finances. For this reason, we have partnered with
organisations including VCs to attend the meetings. We have list of
important figures that we personally invite to spot new opportunities.

Our meetings will usually last about 4 hours long (+ free WiFi) and will take the following format:

•	Opening
o	Registration for start-ups presentation
There will be 15 places available. The spaces will be allocated on the
first come first serve basis. Start-ups will be given a 5 minutes spot
to showcase their products/ services in a very formal way: – please
focus on introducing your company, product/ services and business
model. Remember that you will be presenting to an audience of well
chosen investors in a “Dragon’s Den” style, therefore you have to make
sure that you know your ins and outs.
o	Networking with community peers
o	Food and drinks are provided free charge

•	Presentation/ demo
o	Each entrepreneurs will showcase their products/ services on a large projector for 5 minutes.
o
The events will be filmed and distributed to other investment companies
through the internet. Therefore, if you did not get any luck this time
around, do not worry as more company will see your presentation.

•	End of event
o	Snack bar free of charge
o	Networking

Government
and other agencies providing financial support to small and medium size
businesses will also be attending to give advice and support for you to
take your ideas to implementation.

This group is about promoting
your ideas and business; we ask that for the benefit of all our
members, each member should post a brief introduction of themselves on
the wall. You can use the forums to exchange ideas with others. Let’s
keep this group very active.

Thank you for joining the group and wish you all the best in your venture.

The first meeting will be held @ the idea store – Canary Wharf London…. date to be announced.

See you there

In a recent meeting, as I was explaining about how most Java SOA applications require a web server such as Apache Tomcat or Glassfish, I was asked “what is the difference between apache and tomcat”.

After some confusion as to how a product can be different from its parent company (you don’t ask how Microsoft is different to windows), I was finally able to understand the question which in itself raised a valid point. The actual question being asked was “what is the difference between Apache web server and Apache Tomcat?” (Apache web server commonly being known by “Apache”).

Apache web server is a HTTP server used for hosting web pages, it currently has the largest of the market share hosting 50% of all websites. Apache Tomcat on the other hand is a servlet container designed specifically for java to host J2EE servlets and JSPs (Java server pages).

Web servers which can host java servlets account for only a small percentage of the market, any application developed using the traditional Java approach to SOA (using servlets) can only be hosted on these servers. This clearly limits the reach of any software developed within Java.

With the relaxing of java web security features (a web-start is not restricted locally like an applet) and the advancement of rich client programming in java. It is now a reality to have services supplied to customers without the use of traditional Java servlets.

The removal of a need to supply a dedicated servlet container to clients, allows ETAPIX to host and supply our Saas BI solutions virtually anywhere and for a fraction of the cost. A great benefit even to our customers who do not use our Saas service, as they no longer need to host a dedicated servlet server internally, since any traditional web server will do.

For a few months now, I have been researching Google Analytics and its true benefits. Google Analytics is a “BI” tool for online marketers in order to identify website visitors demographics. But one thing that is not mention in the product feature is the relationship of site visitors and product buyers on the site.

Google Analytics analyzes your site traffic brought in via your marketing campaign. It is also important to identify users that register on the site, based on the marketing campaign, and purchase product.

ETAPIX Global takes the idea of Google Analytics a step further by providing the ability to profile your users, visitors and purchasers alike.

By implementing our eGlobal Intelligence, marketers will be able to answer the following questions:

Who are our top 10 buyers; daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly?

What marketing campaign brought us the most buyers?

What is our buyers pattern; how often do they buy, when (daily and time, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly)?

What is our buyers demographic?

among thousand more questions.

All informations are provided in real-time in order for the right person to make timely executive decisions. eGlobal Intelligence also plugs in Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, SugarCRM among other data sources. Our demo are on demand so just drop us an email and we will demonstrate one of our live application with their full feature.

eGlobal Intelligence compensate Google Analytics by taking you from where Google Analytics ends.

I have recently came across an article entitled “Web 2.0 and Business Intelligence – How Do They Fit Together? Part1” by Mike Ferguson. The article has four parts. What intrigues me in these kinds of articles is how Web 2.0 means Rich Internet Applications (or social networking?) but only focuses on those which run in a web “browser”. Noticed the emphasis on “browser”? The technology or should I say methodology is not called Web Browser 2.0, is it?

The point I am trying to make here is that, Web 2.0 or whatever the marketing jargon, is not restricted solely to application developed for the web using scripting languages such as PHP/Ruby/AJAX/Flex or any other scripting languages and mashups. The fact that desktop applications have been delivering Rich Client Application, for many years through networked computers, shall they be classed as Web 2.0 or Desktop 2.0?

I am from a programming background and I still heavily code in JAVA and some of the “Web 2.0″ scripting languages. Taking JAVA as an example, applets for many years have been providing Rich Internet Application without the beauty of the interface. But since the introduction of the JAVA Web Start technology, JAVA developers had the ability to develop Rich Internet Application that pops out of the browser and run on the client desktop. I can hear some of you saying how ugly “JAVA UI” is, but that was many years ago as you can see here.

We, at ETAPIX Global, develop our Business Intelligence applications using JAVA 2 Standard Edition (and other technologies). Desktop applications are not the same as websites therefore demanding a different approach to development. The user experience is greater, I am not going to get into the technical bits here but can anybody actually prove me wrong. What about availability? It was true that because of being a desktop application, the user had to sit in front of the PC where the application is actually installed (but in enterprise, application can be delivered through other means). But, times have changed and with JAVA Web Start, users can now access desktop application from a web browser from anywhere at any time. By the way, JAVA Web Start is not new!!!

Mind you that I am not talking about JAVAFX. JAVAFX is another “Web 2.0″ scripting language with a twist. Sun says it is geared toward designers but I am not entirely convinced. I have been using JAVAFX for a couple of months and find it quiet intimidating for designers. You cannot currently do great things but animations and create video players. If you want to use the true power of JAVAFX, one has to be a JAVA developer period! The possibility of embedding SWING applications in JAVAFX makes it a great tool for us avid developers. But what will be the point to that when we can do the same in full SWING and deploy through JAVA Web Start. Oh Sun, you guys would have to do much more in order to attract people to that technology because as it stands, I do not see it competing with Adobe and the rest. First of all, you will have to provide a better IDE, just take a look at FLASH\ Flex or Microsoft IDE.

Back to the point of “Web 2.0″ and Business Intelligence, the web is a technology and platform. You do not need to develop applications for web browser to be part of that category. Business Intelligence applications can be develop for desktop as well as for mobile as we proved it with our eGlobal Intelligence product.

Etapix Global Ltd is a start-up specialising in Business Intelligence products for mid market companies ($1million to $1billion annual revenue). We develop Business Intelligence solutions that sit on of top multiple applications such as CRM and ERP products among others.

Etapix Global was founded by Armel Nene at the end of 2008 who then partnered with Andrew Pedrosa (a former work colleague at IDNA-solutions) to create a software house with a combined technical experience of 15 years in computing and Business Intelligence. “We aim to supply solutions which provide a single entity view of all the business stakeholders (customers, suppliers, partners, etc…) activities. It is important for a manager to get accurate data whenever he needs it, with the ability to refine business rules.” Armel added.

In the current market climate with the global recession set to endure for at least a couple of years (on the optimistic of estimates) and with the after effects looking to affect companies well into the next decade, the need for accurate BI to make effective decisions is increasing. Customers need to be able to review and compare all of their data together, from a single reference point which is relevant to their current decisions. BI applications are currently the most effective method of providing these data views and will be the future for all data reliant company decisions.

In order to accomplish their goals, Etapix Global is developing a range of applications to supply their market:

· Business Intelligence is about knowledge management and sharing. Most BI tools today fail to effectively share the knowledge. Users cannot make changes or review dashboard’s figures directly in the application without exporting it first. Etapix Global collaboration tool allows all relevant stakeholders to review dashboards and other metrics directly within the application with the possibility of exporting the results in real-time. All users will share the same dashboard and can participate in virtual review meeting in real-time.

· Etapix Global caters for all type of businesses by providing standalone and service-based (SaaS) solutions. The solutions provide out-of-the box support for all known databases such as Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Sybase, IBM DB2, ProgresSQL, and file system (structured and unstructured), email servers and web services.

“By moving away from the common mistakes when developing BI applications of creating a prototype followed by a full production system for each customer, we are able to provide BI solutions at a fraction of the time and price” Andrew added.

In order to reduce development overhead and price Etapix has developed a black box BI application whose core does not change, in order to customize the application for a particular user numerous levels of configuration exist, from the data level up to the display level, allowing for pre-set features to be installed and configured depending on the requirements.

Etapix Global has now started trading looking to expand its own brand of BI solutions across the mid market, by providing its customers with various solution options, depending on the customer need, great value for money and most importantly relevant data to the relevant people allowing the company to make the right decisions for their future.

end
